Temple Protestant de Sion
Speech intelligibility is of the utmost importance in places of worship. The more complex the architecture of a room, the trickier it is to find the right sound reinforcement system. In the Temple Protestant de Sion, the Swiss Pan Acoustics distributor, GoWild AG, was faced with this task.
The church building with its unusual appearance does not look like a classic church building with a pointed steeple at first glance. Inside, different materials and shapes come together. The fanned, wooden ceiling merges into discreet-looking concrete walls, which are given a splash of color by distinctively patterned, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and colorful stone mosaics on the walls.
Overall, the mix of materials and the interlocking wall surfaces provide the best conditions for challenging acoustics. In order to guarantee balanced and perfect speech intelligibility in the room, where an organ and a small grand piano provide musical accompaniment for church services and celebrations, Dave Spinnler, an expert in all matters relating to suitable sound reinforcement at GoWild AG, opted for a solution with an active loudspeaker from the Pan Beam series. "The PB 24 line array, cleverly positioned in the church, manages to fill the entire room with sound. The sound comes from the direction of the person speaking at the altar and can be heard clearly from the first to the last row. The spoken word sounds very natural and authentic, as you would expect in the room," says Spinnler.
Thanks to Pan Beam Steering technology, the sound is directed precisely to the desired listening areas. In this way, reflections on the reverberant walls are avoided and visitors can enjoy an intelligible church service. The almost 2.70 meter long loudspeaker with its appealing design also blends pleasantly and unobtrusively into the ambience.
Not only the congregation but also the customer Planchamp Télécom SA from Conthey in Switzerland are completely satisfied with the successful project.
