New Town Hall Bernau
Line array loudspeakers from Pan Acoustics in the color of your choice - excellent speech-intelligible, discreet in design
The town of Bernau has a new town hall since 2020. The six-story new building, which is framed by a four-story L-shaped building, houses the municipal administration of the 44,000-inhabitant town in a concentrated manner.
With its central location in downtown Bernau, the New City Hall is easy to reach and, with its attractively designed civic hall, allows for multifunctional use. A public bistro with an outdoor area and an appealing roof terrace make the administration building a modern eye-catcher in the thoroughly historic city center in the immediate vicinity of the church. The visually inviting forecourt of the New City Hall ideally combines old and new architecture.
Citizens‘ Hall as a changeable place
The Bürgersaal has a friendly and calm appearance. White walls, rounded off with light parquet flooring, and doors and window frames made of wood give the room the right atmosphere for very different occasions - be it an internal municipal committee meeting, which is held locally or hybrid, a meeting with the mayor at the Citizens‘ Dialogue, or a formal reception accompanied by live music.
Project requirements for the sound system
To allow as many visitors as possible an unrestricted view of the large display and of the presenters, the room is raised to the rear to provide barrier-free access. The requirements for the sound system were to provide even coverage of the entire area without delay loudspeakers. In order to maintain the flair of the citizens‘ hall, the technology and the loudspeakers were to be integrated as inconspicuously and discreetly as possible into the architecture.
Highest speech intelligibility through sound directing loudspeakers with beam steering
The sound reinforcement of a committee meeting with several speakers from different microphone positions requires different prerequisites than that of a lecture with one speaker at the lectern and many listeners located throughout the civic hall from a seat in the front row in front of the stage to seating in the farthest corner in the stands. Two model PB 16 line array loudspeakers from the Pan Beam series at the front of the room to the right and left of the display are sufficient to cover the sound reinforcement for any event scenario. Spread over a loudspeaker length of more than 1.80 m are 16 HQ drivers that emit four beams with pinpoint accuracy. If you now imagine the civic hall divided into different zones, these areas can be precisely sounded - as if each of the two speakers emits the sound like four flashlights each emit the light to precisely aligned areas. Adjustments are made on the PC via the user-friendly „Pan Beam Setup“ software from Pan Acoustics, which is included in the delivery. Recurring scenarios such as committee meetings or concerts can be conveniently saved as presets. The addition of the P SW-208 subwoofer rounds out the system, especially for musical applications in the low frequency range.
Conclusion
„With the line source speakers and the compact subwoofer from Pan Acoustics, we found the exact solution for the project,“ reports Florian Rath of B.I.N.S.S. Medientechnik GmbH, who implemented the entire AV technology and thus also the sound system for the New Bernau Town Hall. „The sound system meets all requirements - it provides excellent speech intelligibility, is musical at the same time and can be precisely adjusted to any application scenario thanks to multiple beams.“
The project office Dörner & Partner GmbH is also very satisfied with the choice, as the slim line beams in the desired RAL color blend in with the architecture in an appealing but unobtrusive way.
